Most clean-water jobs caught the same day fall here. Concrete slab, framing lumber, tile, solid wood and drywall above the waterline dry well when air movers and dehumidifiers are set up properly and left running. Opening a wall is not free either: once the drywall is cut, you are paying for board, tape, texture and paint on top of the drying. Where readings are falling steadily, leaving material in place is usually both cheaper and less disruptive.
This is why speed matters so much. The difference between calling on the night and calling on Monday is often the difference between a drying bill and a rebuilding bill. Three things push a job toward tear-out. The first is the type of water: anything from a drain or from outside is contaminated, so porous material that absorbed it comes out regardless of how good it looks. That covers sewage backups and most storm and flood damage.
